Radical Social Work practice emerged in the 1970’s as an approach developed by Social Workers to address the poverty and inequality that contributed to the problems their service-users were experiencing through social and political action. In this workshop, Participants will understand the framework of radical social work, critique barriers that impede addressing the root causes of service-users challenges within the social work field, and reimagine their own role in creating a more socially just society for all.
This training activates mental health providers to take action beyond the individual therapeutic relationship and advocate for structural changes that directly impact their service-users. The workshop will help participants to:

About the Speaker
Camesha Jones, LCSW
Camesha is a Radical Social Worker, Social Entrepreneur, and Community Mental Wellness Advocate. She’s been in the Social Work field for over 8 years, primarily working in community settings with youth and young adults focusing on issues of violence prevention, mental health, and disease prevention. She combined her 8+ years of social work & personal experience to create the social enterprise, Sista Afya Community Mental Wellness to help young adult Black women experiencing mental health challenges to get the information, community support, and resource connection necessary to be mentally well. Camesha is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Illinois. She graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors from Spelman College with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and received her Master’s degree in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago.
