Intro to Medicinal Cannabis for Therapists

Event Date:

October 26, 2021

Event Time:

4:00 pm

Cannabis has been legalized for medicinal or recreational use in a majority of states. More than half of American adults have tried cannabis at least once in their lives. 35 million use cannabis at least once a month, yet many Clinicians may not know the in-and-outs of cannabis, and how to navigate these conversations with their clients.

In this workshop, Jenna Quinn Lancor will discuss 3 major pillars to help you feel more prepared to dive in and discuss with your clients:

– Discover the history of Cannabis laws in the U.S that got us where we are today

– Identify the various aspects of cannabis anatomy, cannabinoids, terpenes, consumption use, and intake methods

– Identify best practices of how to open this conversation up with clients and support them in their cannabis journey

Objectives:

1. Evaluate the history of cannabis, the laws implemented, and the effects this has on communities of people, specifically, BIPOC communities;

2. Investigate the endocannabinoid system and the effects of cannabis on the body and brain;

3. Differentiate between different cannabinoids, terpenes and identify 2 cannabinoids known to be psychologically active;

4. Determine what cannabis products patients use for various medical and mental health conditions;

5. Determine the therapeutic benefits, side effects, and safety risks of THC and CBD use;

6. Differentiate between medical, and non-medical cannabis;

7. Communicate strategies for how to effectively discuss and educate clients on medical cannabis.
