MDMA, and Mushrooms, and Ketamine, Oh My!: A presentation on psychedelic-assisted therapy

Event Date:

October 7, 2022

Event Time:

1:30 pm

Description

What’s all this talk about psychedelic-assisted therapy, how does it work, and how does one become a psychedelic therapist? As interest in psychedelic-assisted therapy is booming, it’s hard to keep track of what the most up-to-date, safest, and legal options are for people who are curious about these medicines. Join two psychedelic therapists as they teach about the current status of psychedelic research and clinical applications.

Objectives

  • Participants will learn about current FDA research on psychedelic-assisted therapy for a variety of mental health indications
  • Participants will gain knowledge about how psychedelic medicines can be used therapeutically
  • Participants will learn about different pathways to becoming trained to practice psychedelic-assisted therapy

About the Speakers

Irina Alexander (She/her), LMFT, Founder of Sage Institute

Irina is a licensed therapist who loves people who use drugs, people who live on the edges of society, and people whose existence is a radical act in and of itself. She is a co-founder and Clinical Director of Sage Institute, a sliding scale psychedelic therapy clinic in Oakland, as well as a street-based harm reduction therapist with the Harm Reduction Therapy Center in San Francisco. Irina has a long history in harm reduction, and believes in the healing capacity of showing up for each other, individually and as a community. As a therapist, Irina holds a trauma-informed and social justice oriented lens, including in her ketamine assisted therapy work. She feels passionate about making healing services more accessible to marginalized communities in a way that’s both client-centered and safe. Irina has volunteered for several years as a supervisor with the Zendo Project, and is currently also working as an Adherence Rater in the MAPS MDMA Clinical Trials.”

Vilmarie Fraguada Narloch (She/her), PsyD. Co-founder of Sana Healing Collective

Vilmarie is a licensed psychologist focusing on integrated treatment of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. She is an activist working to end the War on Drugs and advocates for science and reality based drug education and harm reduction approaches for all. She approaches her work from a harm reductionist and humanistic lens, focusing on the individual needs of the person, group, or community.
