Event Description
This workshop provides an overview of the neurobiology of trauma and translates that knowledge into specific therapeutic interventions. Topics covered include: trauma and developmental neuroscience, vertical and horizontal fragmentation, six stages of trauma response, polyvagal theory, affective neuroscience, memory reconsolidation, and how knowledge of neurobiology of trauma maps into phase oriented treatment and therapeutic principles of resourcing, titration, pendulation and dual awareness.
Objectives
1. Learn 3 different ways trauma impacts the brain and the memory system.
2. Learn the 6 stages of the body’s stress response system and how trauma affects them.
3. Integrate the neurobiology of trauma into 4 therapeutic principles.
4. Integrate the neurobiology of trauma into 4 effective therapeutic interventions.

About the Speaker
Ling Lam, Ph.D., MFT
Ling is a Lecturer in the Counseling Psychology Department at Santa Clara University, and a TEDx Speaker on the Power of Feeling Safe: How Kindness Restores Resilience.
He holds a Ph.D. from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University, and an M.S. and B.S. (with distinction) in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. Before he became a licensed therapist, Ling worked as an engineer in Silicon Valley and was part of the original engineering team that invented the world’s first HDMI chip.
Workshop participants who opt to receive CE certification, please select the CEU option. This workshop fulfills requirement for 1.5 CE credits. CE sponsorship is approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR), credits are applicable to LCSW and transferrable to LCPC in Illinois. If you have a different licensure or are licensed outside of Illinois, please check with your licensure body before purchasing.
